Dear Friends and Family,
Several weeks ago, our family was invited to Inter-Lakes Elementary School to spend some
time with students and teachers. The reason was for the school to thank Geralynn’s fund for
financing the partnership between I-L Elementary School and the Prescott Farm Environmental
Education Center. The day meant much more than that.
We were greeted at the front door by several students who escorted us to their classroom.
We were given a multimedia presentation showing their participation in the program and what they
are learning. It included pictures, videos, and smiles. They gave us hand written thank you cards,
offered seats at their desks, and more smiles. Students read aloud about activities they did while
learning. This was accompanied by even more smiles. The students ended the morning thanking
“Mrs. Fountain’s Family” for visiting and providing support for the partnership.
After, the presentation we had the opportunity to speak with many teachers. Teachers we
have known for years and more than a few who worked with Geralynn. All took the time to say how
much they missed Ger and how important the Prescott Farm partnership is. We asked if there were
other opportunities for Geralynn’s fund to help fill a void in funding but to a person they said the
program was where the focus should be. After leaving the school we took some time to walk around
the grounds where the students did some of their outdoor classes. If we weren’t discussing the
program we were talking about Geralynn and her years as a para-educator. This of course led to
stories about Ger. More smiles. It was a very good day.
As you know, the mission of Geralynn’s fund is to help inspire young people through
education as Geralynn did. Looking back thru the years, yes, it has been four years since we lost
Ger’s physical presence in our lives. Our support to the I-L School district has always aimed to
fulfill Ger’s wish. To spark the student’s interests with an eye towards science. We believe that by
directing our collective support to funding the partnership between Prescott Farm Environmental
Education Center (www.prescottfarm.org) and the Inter-Lakes School District we are doing what
Geralynn would want. Hands on learning coupled with lessons in the classroom have received a
very positive response from both teachers and students. We plan on providing funding for this
relationship again this coming school year. This support is all of our support. All of Geralynn’s
friends and family.
We again thank you for you overwhelming and continued support of Ger’s fund. Just as
important is the constant thoughts, prayers and memories we all have of Geralynn. Without a doubt
she is with us and her students.
Sincerely,
Stephen and Megan Fountain and the O’Brien Family
