Dear Friends and Family,
Hello and thank you for your continued support of Geralynn’s memorial fund. This is our 7 th
update over as many years. As time continues and life moves forward, we keep Geralynn in our
thoughts and her spirit alive with this fund. The Geralynn Anne Fountain Memorial Fund was
formed to support the students at Inter-Lakes Elementary School. Ger’s vision was to help the
teachers positively affect the students through science. We have accomplished this by funding the
school’s partnership with Prescott Farm and look to do the same in the 2021-2022 school year.
This past year as we all know has been a challenge on many levels. The school we partner
with changed how they taught many times throughout the year. Zoom classes were the majority of
the learning style. Even in that environment, the school was able to incorporate the Naturalist in the
Classroom Program through the Prescott Farm initiative. A good portion of the learning takes place
outdoors which fit perfectly into the new normal. The teachers and administrators are very thankful
for our support of this program.
Although most of the administrators that knew Geralynn have retired, it is exciting to see the
new guard embrace the fund’s mission. We inquired this summer if the Naturalist in the Classroom
Program was still relevant and the response was a resounding “YES!” As a family, we are
constantly discussing if there are better ways for us to help the students and always go back to
Geralynn wanting to help as many students as possible. Individual grants are good, but she felt the
impact was not broad enough. The children that need the most support often miss out on scholarship
opportunities since they are not planning on college. The Prescott Farm initiative not only fills a
funding gap but may also inspire a student who was falling through the cracks with a new way of
learning. Geralynn always had a special place for the kids that were struggling. If she was walking
in the grocery store and would see one of her little friends her face would light up almost as much as
the child’s.
You can find more information about the Naturalist in the Classroom program at
https://prescottfarm.org/service/for-schools/naturalist-in-the-classroom/ . At year end, Inter-Lakes
Elementary School and Geralynn’s Fund receives an annual report about the program. We are happy
to report for the 2020-2021 school year Geralynn’s fund financed 147 hours of education over 21
visits spanning Kindergarten through 6 th Grade!
Thank you again for letting us help the local community and especially those students that
need a little extra inspiration to further their education. Please reach out to us if you have any
questions.
Best Regards,
Stephen and Megan Fountain and the O’Brien Family
